FRANK, THE BODY SNATCHER
by Tony Tsendeas
In the 1830s, Baltimore was one of the first cities in America to establish medical schools, and doctors needed dead bodies for the students to dissect and study. And so they turned to ‘Resurrection Men’ like Frank for a steady, fresh, supply. This is his story…
EDGAR ALIEN POE
by Mark Redfield
Poe died in Baltimore in 1849. One of the poet’s last great works was “Eureka”, on the very nature of our universe…But did he write it? Somewhere in the wilds of Perry Hall, Maryland, a group discovers the truth the night a silver saucer crashes in their neighborhood…
NOW THAT'S FUNNY

Baltimore. 1923. Vaudeville. The Swan Hotel, an establishment that caters to theatrical types; performers living the dream and the occasional nightmare of life on the Vaudeville touring circuit. Join us on a sweltering hot night and see the all comings and goings and all of the drama that takes place … off-stage.
ONE NIGHT AT THE GRINDHOUSE
by Mark Redfield
For decades, Mobtown has long been notorious for “The Block” on Baltimore Street, a collection of sex shops, porn theaters, and ancient burlesque houses. What happens when two enterprising entrepreneurs decide to cut-out-the-middle-man and make their own films in 1968? Why, murder, of course!
EVERY THEATRE HAS A GHOST
by Mark Redfield
It’s a fact that all theaters are haunted, and the Baltimore Theatre Project is no exception. But who puts on a better show in 2024? A traveling group of players opening a new play on Preston Street, or the spirits that haunt the theatre, and claim the opening night date for themselves?

I’m thrilled to work again with Ellie Torrez , who co-starred with me in “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” over twenty years-ago!
Ellie voices Mina Harker, in this direct sequel to Bram Stoker’s novel DRACULA. I’ve written the script, and will direct. It’s the first of three stand alone “Harker” audio adventures that we’ve planned, all part of the Vampire Hunters Incorporated world created by me and long-time writing partner Stuart Voytilla.
Casting has begun. I’ll be reaching out to actors over the month of April, with recording beginning in May (coincidently, Bram Stoker’s birthday month!).
These Harker stories have been long in the works, developing and writing them, and we’re very excited to bring them to life this year and share the first with you.
If you like your vampires dark and evil, your adventure swift and thrilling, and your sense of romance is somewhere in the neighborhood of Nick and Nora Charles, and Steed and Mrs. Peel, I hope you like what we’re coming up with, in “Harker and the Shadow of Dracula”.

Rest In Peace Make-Up Artist Robert Yoho
Posted 10/20/23
I am deeply saddened today to hear that Robert Yoho has died. After seven months, cancer took him. Bob was the make-up artist who, greater than any lab potion Jekyll could concoct, transformed me into Edward Hyde, and the ancient flophouse proprietor Chaing, in our film “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” (2002).
Bob was an extraordinarily gentle and caring man. His artistry was of the highest caliber. It’s because of Bob Yoho that I had a character to play, and that Hyde came to life. The collaboration between us, figuring out the several stages of Hyde through-out the story, was a joy. And the challenge I threw him after Ellie Torrez suggested I play Chaing was met with excitement, and Bob delivered, as always in his work, brilliantly.
Bob, you are missed by so many. I hope, in however small a way, our little film is part of your legacy; a reminder of your great artistry.
Thank you, Bob. ♥️

“The Death of Poe…is one of the finest movies yet made about Poe. Redfield’s acting is so persuasive that one can easily believe that this is what happened to the author…The film is dominated by Redfield’s performance; more than perhaps any other actor who attempted the role before him., Redfield IS Poe, both dramatically and physically. (The film) is almost decidedly grim, an exceptional tribute to Poe.” - Bruce G. Hallenbeck from the book “POE PICTURES The Film Legacy of Edgar Allan Poe” Tomahawk Press (2020)

In this video essay presented by Mark Redfield, we look at the life and career of actor Boris Karloff, his struggle and path to become a professional actor, and the rise of the American Labor Movement, and particularly the beginning of The Screen Actors Guild in 1933.
The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) grew in membership and strength from its founding, to its merger with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), to become the largest and strongest Hollywood union. Today, SAG-AFTRA has over 160,000 members.
The American Labor Movement, and American’s embrace of unions to fight for their wages, protections, and working conditions is growing. But not yet at the levels of the 1930s. It is an ongoing battle.

The music and arrangement is by Jennifer Rouse.
The sea shanty was chosen for our audio drama as, on one level, it may be heard as a song about a sailor leaving a woman behind…but more accurately, a song about leaving a ship, and final voyage behind, and returning home. The folk song dates back to the earliest days of seafaring wanderers…

An Update On ALONE THE LIFE OF POE
Posted 5/14/21
I hope that you are well and that this message finds you looking forward to a healthy future.
The COVID 19 Pandemic wrecked many plans for all of us in 2020, and some of our productions, our original Sherlock Holmes audio dramas, and “ALONE The Life of Poe”, in particular.
As you know from previous updates, production on “ALONE The Life of Poe” halted when the pandemic began. There was no other option but to stop production, as many of our cast are older, and it was not safe to bring them into recording studios around the world at the time.
Since halting production, I have used the time to polish the script and triple-fact-check the facts of my dramatization.
Now, we are cautiously and optimistically looking at the calendar to resume recording, post-production, and music scoring of “ALONE The Life of Poe”.
It’s our goal to complete recording this year, in 2021, and release “ALONE The Life of Poe” in the first half of 2022.
Onward we go!
I hope that you have gotten the vaccine, or are going to get it soon. Please stay safe and well! Until our next update – back in the studio we go!

THE CANTERVILLE GHOST Now Available From Redfield Arts Audio
Posted 2/16/21
Oscar Wilde’s delightful story comes to life with vivid performances by Mark Redfield and Mackenzie Menter (as Virginia), with an original music score by Jennifer Rouse. One of the first stories Wilde published in 1887, “The Canterville Ghost” tells the story of an American family that moves into a haunted country house in England. At first disbelieving in ghosts, the family soon accepts, and then combats, the ghostly antics of Sir Simon de Canterville. Sir Simon has haunted Canterville Chase in various ghastly disguises for years, and becomes increasingly frustrated at the American family’s attempts to spoil the fun. Only little Virginia reaches out to Sir Simon, and with her help, the garrulous ghost is able to find peace. Wilde’s story combines macabre whimsy and gentle humor, making it perennially popular. “He made me see what Life is, and what Death signifies, and why Love is stronger than both.” – The Canterville Ghost.

An Interview With Writer Dennis Paoli
Posted 10/25/20
By Mark Redfield
Dennis Paoli writes plays and films. His oeuvre includes adaptations of the works of Poe and Lovecraft. Re-Animator (1985), Dreams of the Witch House (2005), The Black Cat (2007) and Nevermore: An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe, a one-man play starring Jeffrey Combs that has been winning and astonishing audiences around the country since its premiere at The Steve Allen Theatre in Los Angeles in 2009.
Paoli taught writing and Gothic Literature at Hunter College, City University of New York. Now retired from teaching, he is busier than ever, writing. He is also Donor/Advisor of the Heidi Paoli Fund for cancer patients.
I talked with Dennis about his approach to adaptation and screen and play writing, and getting under the skin of the man Edgar Allan Poe.
An Interview With Director Stuart Gordon
Stuart Gordon (August 11, 1947 – March 24, 2020) began his creative life in the Chicago theatre world. He founded The Organic Theatre in 1969. There, he and his company created electrifying theatre, and produced some of David Mamet’s earliest plays. Moving to Los Angeles to pursue filmmaking, Gordon’s debut film “Re-Animator” (1985) has become a favorite with movie-goers around the world. He met and cast Jeffrey Combs in “Re-Animator”, the beginning of a life-long collaboration between the two. The screenplay was by Dennis Paoli, a dear friend from Gordon’s theatre days in the 1960s. Stuart Gordon would make films with Combs and Paoli for the rest of his life. Highlights in Stuart Gordon’s film career as a director include “Dagon”, “From Beyond”, “King of The Ants”, and David Mamet’s “Edmond”. Screenplays include “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”. When given the opportunity to adapt a Poe story to Showtime’s series “Masters of Horror”, Gordon chose to adapt Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Black Cat”. He gathered his long-time screenwriting partner Dennis Paoli, and actor Jeffrey Combs to play Poe. While in production, Combs and Gordon began talking about Combs doing a Poe one man show. The result, after a period of research and rehearsal, resulted in the acclaimed “Nevermore, An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe”, premiering at the Steve Allen Theatre in Los Angeles in 2009. Stuart Gordon passed away on March 24th, 2020. His films live on. This audio book production is dedicated to his memory. Without Stuart Gordon, there would be no “Nevermore, An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe”.
This conversation between Stuart and Mark Redfield took place in 2014

An Interview with Caroline Munro, Star of “Sinbad and the Pirate Princess” from Redfield Arts Audio
Posted 9/9/20
Caroline Munro stars in our audio drama adventure “Sinbad and the Pirate Princess”, now available worldwide on Audible! When I discussed the project with her, it was a toss up as to do the Sinbad script, or a sequel to Dracula I had written. She was eager to tackle “Sinbad” first, as she had starred in Ray Harryhausen’s 1974 fantasy film “The Golden Voyage of Sinbad”, and was on the board of The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation. And so we took off for high adventure on the Arabian Sea with Sinbad and Junah, the Pirate Princess of the title! Jonathan and Mina Harker awaits us in the future…
Caroline is regarded by her most passionate fans as The First Lady of Fantasy. From her Hammer films of the 1970s, and starring roles in fantasy films such as “At The Earth’s Core” and “The Golden Voyage of Sinbad”, to the assassin Naomi in the James Bond blockbuster “The Spy Who Loved Me”, and her roles in cinema and audio drama today, Caroline’s beauty and talent have captured the hearts of audiences internationally.

Poems by Poe have been added to this spoken word addition, that were not in the 1899 original.

WELCOME TO REDFIELD ARTS AUDIO!
Posted 10/30/17
Welcome, dear listener!
If you love great audio drama and audio books, you've come to the right place. We’re currently in production with some wonderful audio drama and books and we can't wait to share them with you!
Coming up as we move toward the new year is an exciting seven-part audio drama series about a haunted theater in Seattle. We call it SEASON 13: A SEATTLE CHRISTMAS CAROL. We’ve assembled a fine cast of voice actors, including Rik Deskin, Olivia McMahon, and Brinke Stevens. I get to play the main ghost that stalks the fictional Majestic Theatre in our story, called Jack Fairbanks. If you love the theater, theater folk, stories of old Hollywoood and old Broadway, and fun ghost stories, this series hits Audible and iTunes just after Thanksgiving!
Speaking of Dickens' classic ghost story (which is the play they're presenting in our series “Season 13: A Seattle Christmas Carol”) I'm doing an all-new reading of the original story, with all new music and sound effects by Jennifer Rouse. My favorite ghost story!
Next year will see the release of some great, original audio drama, including THE CRIMES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES (from my original story) and more Holmes action in David Gerrold’s THE CASE OF THE GREEN CARNATION.
PoeForevermore Radio Theater
We will continue to produce Poe audio adaptations and audio books. In 2018 listen for our audio book THE STORY OF EDGAR ALLAN POE (a wonderful primer for people new to Poe’s life and work) and our adaptation of Poe’s gooiest horror tale, VALDEMAR.
Vampire Hunters Incorporated
The series of novels that I co-write with Stuart Voytilla will also be an audio drama series in 2018. I'm very excited about these projects. The audio adventures of vampire hunter Bertram Welles in Manhattan will be a series of fully dramatized 30 minute episodes, many based on the collection of short stories called MANHATTAN AFTER MIDNIGHT, to be published Ina few months.
Audio books of CULT OF THE NOSFERATU and a full dramatization of HARKER AND THE SHADOW OF DRACULA co-starring Caroline Munro (who did SINBAD AND THE PIRATE PRINCESS with us) are in the works.
There is so much coming and I hope that you will visit us here regularly to keep up with all the new titles and projects, and our events and shows and conventions that we will be appearing at through-out the year.
And don't forget to sign up for our mailing list so that we can tell you about breaking news of our work as it happens, before anyone else!
